Miniature roses are delicate plant that offers beautiful flowers and fragrance to any home. They make an ideal houseplant or can be used to decorate a deck when planted in a nice container. Pruning them is not hard if you follow these basic steps. Does this Spark an idea?

      Select 5 to 8 of the healthiest canes on the rose plant that are more than a fingerwidth in diameter and grow upward.

      Cut out any twiggy growth that is less than a fingerwidth in diameter.

      Cut out any canes that cross each other.

    • 4

      Cut out any canes in the very middle of the plant. This will give the plant a fuller appearance.

      Divide the remaining canes into thirds.

    • 6

      Cut off the top third of the canes. Make the cut above a bud if possible. The plant should now grow vigorously and produce an abundance of blooms.

Tips & Warnings

  • When pruning the main canes, go downward towards the outside. This allows water to run off the cut area.
