Remove the Chlorine Smell in a Bathing Suit

Nothing is worse than having that chemically charged smell of chlorine on your bathing suit, especially considering that if you can smell it, it's probably damaging the fibers on your favorite swimwear. Use this method to clean the bathing suit, and it will smell good as new.

From Quick Guide: Swimwear Guide for Girls
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Rinse. When coming from chlorinated water, immediately rinse your bathing suit and wash yourself--chlorine is a chemical, and it's very drying for your skin and damaging to fabrics.

  2. Step 2

Throw your suit in the wash. Use a quality detergent with a gentle scent, or something in unscented if the scent bothers you.

  3. Step 3

Add 1 cup of vinegar to your wash before you start the cycle. This will kill any additional bacteria in your laundry, and it will come out smelling fresh without the use of damaging chemicals or severe heat.

  4. Step 4

Don't put your suit in the dryer, as most have elastic in them, and elastic burns very easily in a dryer. Instead, hang them to dry outside or in an area with good ventilation and fresh air. Once dry, the suit should smell fresh and clean without a hint of chlorine.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you do have to dry your suit, make sure you do it on a low heat setting so as not to burn out the elastics.
  • If you have strings on your suit, put the suit in a laundry bag so they don't snag or get caught on anything.
