How to Clear Space on an XBox 360 Hard Drive

The XBox 360 allows you to download games and game demos from the Internet, but you can easily fill up your hard drive doing this. Remember to clean your drive as often as possible, not only removing old demos and games you no longer play, but also removing all the extra content that Microsoft ships with the XBox. Cleaning up your drive is a very straightforward process.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the XBox 360 dashboard. Simply start your XBox without a disk in the drive, or, if a game has already loaded, press the XBox button followed by the Y button.

    • 2

Select the Support menu. This is the "blade" on the far right.

    • 3

Scroll down and select "Memory" from the menu. You will be prompted to then select your hard drive, which will bring up another menu of the contents of your drive.

    • 4

Choose the type of file you want to delete. If you know you have old games or game demos you no longer play, you can select "Games" or "Game Demos" from this screen.

    • 5

Be sure to look at the sections called "Videos," "Themes" and "Other." Microsoft includes many promotional files that you may not have been aware were on your disk. These can all be deleted without any problems, which usually clears up at least 2 to 3GB of space.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember that you can re-download games you have already purchased. And demos will always be available.

  • Be careful when deleting User Profiles. Although Microsoft says you can reclaim this data later, this is not always the case.
