1
Dress the part. Wear local styles when visiting another area. One thing that surely targets you as a tourist is airbrushed shirts with the name of the area you’re in. For example, if you’re from a northern state and visiting a southern state, don’t wear your handbag across your torso because no one in the south does that. Keep an eye on what others are wearing and dress accordingly.

2
Don’t act lost. It’s okay to ask for directions but standing around with a map in your hands is a sure sign that you are not from that area. Learn where you’re going before setting out to get there and always stay in a group if possible.

3
Be nice to the locals. People who work in the area you’re visiting are there to help you but they’re not your servants. If you act like they are beneath you, you will get treated with hostility. These are the same people who might visit your town as well. Treat them as you would anyone else, with kindness and a nice tone to your voice. You’ll get helped must faster by being pleasant.
-
4
Know the local laws and rules. Not every place is the same when it comes to local laws and policies. Have an idea of what is accepted where you are visiting. Ignorance is not a defense if you break that law while you’re on vacation.
-
5
Know something about the area you are visiting. Do a little research before you go on your trip. This will ensure that you at least know the basics about the place you’re going and can act accordingly. For example, if you’re visiting New Orleans, know that you’re not allowed to visit St. Louis Cathedral during mass. If you travel to Italy, be prepared to cover your shoulders and knees before entering any church.
-
6
Learn about local customs and activities. You wouldn’t want to wear shorts to Saudi Arabia and you don’t want to drive on the wrong side of the road in England if you rent a car there.
