A social networking website is a place where people can go, set up a personal page, interact with other members and network. If you are interested in an online business, then this is a great option. Right now the market only has a few social networking sites that are up and running including MySpace and Facebook. You can use these social networking sites as a guide when creating your own social networking website.

Difficulty: Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find an angle for your social networking website. Finding a unique angle is key to developing a successful social networking website, as it will allow you to corner a niche in the market. Some angles you can use include: special interests, online business networking, B2B, sports and age categories.

  2. Step 2

Create a catchy name that will attract people’s interest and that will also work as your site’s domain name. Try to work the focus of your social networking site into the name of your social networking site. This will help people interested in the topic that your social networking site is focused on to find your site.

  3. Step 3

Purchase your domain name and sign up for website hosting. You can usually buy both of these things from the same vendor, however, this is not always the case. Check with your current ISP to see if they offer these services. You may be able to get a discount by using them. Other vendors you can work with include GoDaddy and Yahoo! Business.

  4. Step 4

Develop a business plan for your social networking site. You will want to spell out the rules for using your site, develop a plan for earning income from your site and outline your marketing strategies.

  5. Step 5

Design your social networking website. To do this you can use the website designing platform offered by your hosting service; you can use online website design templates; or you can use commercial website design software like FrontPage.
