Things You'll Need:
- The desire to be able to write regularly and without the feeling of writer's block
-
Step 1
Set Aside a Particular Part of the Day for Writing
Some people think better in the morning and others do at night. Try a few different times if possible to see what works best for you. -
Step 2
Be Consistent in Your Writing Time
Initially the idea you may want to pursue may not flow, so starting off with smaller projects--articles, short stories, etc.--will still help you as well. It takes roughly 21 days to get a habit established, and while things in life tend to come up it will help you hold to this as much as possible. -
Step 3
Keep Writing on Your Mind Even if It's Not the Designated Time in Front of Your Computer
I gather ideas throughout the day and write them down. This makes the time I'm typing things out more productive. Even if you like using a computer, notebooks help because you can sketch and brainstorm with a lot less limitations. -
Step 4
Keep Things Around You That Help Your Creativity
My office is slightly messy, but I always have things within reach that can spark my thinking--magazines, books, photos, etc. A small filing cabinet and a bulletin board come in handy as well. -
Step 5
If Ideas Aren't Coming, Change Your Routine Instead of Stop Writing
Go outside or to a busier location. Like time of day, sometimes people function better in different types of environments.
I hope you've found these tips helpful to you! Good luck and best wishes!
