1
Gather your items to sell. A lot of people want to start their business by selling things from around their house that they no longer need. This is a good way to start and to get used to selling items on eBay, but eventually they will run out of things to sell.
While selling items you have lying around, make the effort to find new items at the same time. Try yard sales and consignment sales to get low-priced items that can bring in a high profit. If you have more money to invest, sign up for a wholesale license and buy inventory directly from a manufacturer.

Sign up for an eBay account. To be a seller, you will have to have a credit or debit card on file. You will also have to come up with a user name that is not already in use. Because eBay has millions of user names in use, it may take a few tries to come up with one. The name should sound professional, or at least like someone who is trustworthy. If you plan to sell one specific type of item, try to incorporate that item into your user ID name.

Get a good digital camera if you don't already have one. It should be able to take clear pictures, and ideally it should have a macro function to allow you to take pictures of small details. For most items, a good picture is the best way to sell an item. Items without pictures or with fuzzy images sell for far less than items with clear pictures.

Build up a little bit of feedback. Most experienced buyers will not buy from someone who has no track record with the site. If you have no feedback at all, buy a few things through eBay in order to get a few numbers after your ID name. This shows people that you can successfully complete a transaction.

5
Start listing your items. Selling items on eBay requires coming up with a description of the item, a price and a shipping method. For most items, you will also want to include a picture. But, listing items on eBay, especially if you have a lot of them, can be hard work. Depending on the items you have to sell, it can be extremely time consuming.

Begin your selling with a listing schedule of one or two items a day to avoid burnout. If you want to sell full time, begin by listing four or five items a day and spending a set number of hours out finding new things to sell. Once you have a good supply of items, you can change the ration to one hour out scouting for items and listing 10 or more items each day.
