Step 1
Irregardless of when your draft was scheduled, management of your team starts right after the draft. We all go into the draft room with a plan, but sometimes we succumb to emotions that derail our draft preparations. Review your picks for glaring mistakes. If you participated in an automated draft, this is paramount. Computers don't have artificial intelligence!!!
-
Step 2
Don't go to sleep during pre-season. Each year during pre-season, several key players suffer serious injuries, some of which are season-ending. Pay close attention to who gets injuried. Backups can become starters. Remember, free agent signings or trades could easily change the strength of your team. Also, watch for players that have several great performances, usually third year players hidden on the depth chart.
-
Step 3
If your league allows, trade to bolster your lineup. Trade with the intention of acquiring a starter who fills a weakness on the roster. The best time to trade is after a player has a great outing, which increases his value.
-
Step 4
Look for opportunities to start your second or third string players against teams that they should take advantage of. For example, a stud running back versus a weak run defense. Be careful not to overdue this, as this could easily turn into micro managing your team to ruin.
-
Step 5
If you play in a head to head league, it may be a good idea to start players that will counter players on his roster. For example, if your opponent has a good quarterback and you have one of the receivers from that team, start him. Every touchdown pass your receiver scores washes out one scored by the quarterback. The key to this strategy is the points scored for yardage in most leagues favor the receiver. If you plan to employ this strategy, make sure two things: there is a scoring advantage for your player and the likelihood of tandem scoring with a player on the opposing fantasy roster.

I'm not a football fan but this has to be exciting. My husband can stay on the computer all day playing this stuff.

on 10/24/2008 It's important to keep an eye on players that step up out of nowhere and start to rack up the tds. Those are players to pick up and play. I've won several years now and I attribute it to this.
