Grilling your avocados amps up their southwestern flair. When ripe, these fruits remain sturdy on the grill and are delicious when served warm with a meal or alone as an appetizer or snack. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Peeled or unpeeled avocados (1 to 2 halves per serving)
  • Large plate
  • Lemon or lime juice
  • Olive oil
  • Grill
  • Grilling tongs, or other utensil
  • Salt (optional)
  • Pepper (optional)

Instructions

    • 1

      Half the avocados lengthwise, removing and discarding their pits. Lay the halves out on a plate, their fleshy centers facing up.

      Drizzle the avocados with olive oil and lemon or lime juice. Add salt and pepper, if desired.

      Heat your grill to medium or medium-high heat.

      Place each avocado half onto the grill, skin-side down. Grill for up to three minutes -- less if you have chosen to peel your avocado.

      Flip each avocado and grill for an additional 30 seconds to three minutes, until the edges brown.

      Remove the avocados from the grill and arrange on a plate. Serve with salsas, salads or breads.

Tips & Warnings

  • It's usually easier to handle the avocados if they remain in their half-skins.
