Every time I visit the Puerto-Rican neighborhoods in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, I stop but my favorite restaurant and order a cuban sandwich or "cubano". Here is an easy recipe to make these delicious sandwiches at home. They are great for parties! Serves 4
*Refer to my Pernil recipe first to make the roast pork needed for this sandwich.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • One loaf of cuban or italian bread seedless
  • butter, softened
  • sliced dill pickles
  • 1 lb thinly sliced pernil or roast pork
  • 1 lb sliced ham
  • 1/2 lb sliced mild swiss cheese
  • mayonnaise (optional)
  1. Step 1

Slice the cuban bread down the center. If you can't find cuban bread, you can use italian bread which is similar. Then cut the bread into 4 equal sections long and butter on the inside of the halves.

  2. Step 2

Fill sandwiches with pickles, roasted pork, ham, cheese and mayonnaise.

  3. Step 3

Preheat a large skillet or frying pan. Place sandwiches on the pan and place a large, heavy skillet on top to weight them down and flatten. (This is a homemade version of a panini press!)Let cook for approximately 10 minutes or until the cheese has melted and bread is crusty and lightly browned.

  4. Step 4

Slice the sandwiches in halves if desired and serve!
