How to Fillet Rainbow Trout

Rainbow trout can make for a delicious meal. The following are steps on how to fillet it when caught fresh.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • water
  • sharp knife
  • pan or barbecue grill
  1. Step 1

    First, always wash the trout thoroughly.

  2. Step 2

    Cut the fish open from its underbelly. Start from the bottom hole near the tail and cut a line all the way up to the gills.

  3. Step 3

    Rinse out the inside of the fish; intestines, bones, and all.

  4. Step 4

    Remove the intestines and the bones with your hands.

  5. Step 5

    Remove the head and tail of the trout. When removing the tail cut approximately one inch above the tail.

  6. Step 6

    Check again to make sure all the bones and intestines have been removed.

  7. Step 7

    Peel the trout's skin from tail to head, it should peel nicely.

  8. Step 8

    Cook, fry, or barbeque and season according to preference.
