Remember the homestyle green beans Grandma used to make? Green beans are a healthy and delicious side dish, and it's easy to make them the old fashioned way. They go with just about anything, too. Here's how to make homestyle green beans, just like Grandma's!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Large pot
  • Stove
  • 1 lb Green Beans- fresh or frozen
  • 2 slices raw bacon
  • 1/4 cup diced onion, OR 1/8 cup dehydrated minced onion
  • Water
  • 1 Beef Boullion cube
  1. Step 1

If using frozen green beans you can skip this step. Trim the ends of fresh green beans and peel string in process. Some green beans are stringless, and that's what I use. Using a knife, cut almost all the way through to end, carefully pinching the string between thumb and knife and peel. Repeat process with other end, stringing the opposite side of bean. Cut green beans into 1-2 inch sections.

  2. Step 2

Place green beans in a colander and rinse well. Then place them in a large pot and add remaining ingredients. Chop the raw bacon before adding, or leave whole.

  3. Step 3

Cover green beans with water, leaving about an inch of water extra, and heat on low. Simmer green beans for 30-45 minutes. You may simmer a little longer, but don't go too long as it will boil most of the vitamins and nutrients out of the green beans.

Tips & Warnings
  • Some people like the addition of a dash of garlic powder to their homestyle green beans.
  • Use caution with stove and hot green beans.
