There are several ways to sharpen photos using graphics-editing software. Here's a simple yet effective way to sharpen your photos.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Adobe Photoshop CS3
  1. Step 1

Open your photo in Photoshop CS3. Once ready, duplicate your current layer by right clicking the current layer and choosing "Duplicate Layer". A window pops up, allowing you to rename your new layer. Once done, click Ok,

  2. Step 2

Click on Filter>Sharpen>Unsharp Mask. This allows you to modify the settings for sharpness thoroughly. This allows photoshop to enhance the photo by sharpening and enhancing edges.

  3. Step 3

Sometimes, sharpening using the Unsharp Mask feature brings out exaggerated edges, or even worse, haloes. To fix this, we adjust the opacity of the current layer by dragging the opacity slider to the left, to suit your needs.

  4. Step 4

Merge the layers by clicking on Layer>Merge Layers. Save your file. There we go! Your photo should now be sharpened without exaggerated features.

Tips & Warnings
  • Adjust the Amount and Radius to your liking, but I recommend setting the amount to a number around 60, and Radius to around 10.
  • Be careful in adjusting the Radius and Amount when using the Unsharp mask feature.
