How to Propagate a Golden Pothos

How to Propagate a Golden Pothosthumbnail
It's a very simple process to propagate a golden pothos plant.

Golden pothos, also known as devil's ivy, is one of the easiest houseplants to grow. All you need to do is water it once per week and give it medium light and you will have a happy plant. If you don't want to spend the money to purchase one of these plants, try taking a cutting from a friend or neighbor. Propagating this plant is very easy.

    Things You'll Need

    • Garden shears
    • Vase
    • Pot
    • Potting soil
      • 1

Find a healthy golden pothos plant that you can take at least a 6-inch cutting from.

      • 2

Cut 6 inches from the end of a stem with the shears. Make sure there are a few leaves on the end of the stem. Take several cuttings if you can.

      • 3

Fill a small vase or glass with water.

      • 4

Place the cuttings stem down in the water with a few leaves exposed. After a week, you should start to see some roots growing in the water. Keep topping off the vase with water and wait several weeks for roots to establish.

      • 5

Fill a pot with rich potting soil to within an inch of the rim. Stick your finger into the soil in the middle of the pot to place the stem cutting.

      • 6

Insert the stem cutting into the hole and pat the soil around the stem. Water well and place in an area where it will get medium light.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Ask friends, co-workers, family, or neighbors if you can take cuttings from their plant.
