How to Cut Up a Pineapple
Fresh pineapple is a nutritious, tasty treat. The flavor and texture of fresh pineapple is far superior to any canned or frozen pineapple. It also gives enhanced flavor in baking recipes that call for pineapple. But a pineapple is one of the most intimidating pieces of fruit in the produce section. Things You'll Need
- Pineapple
- Large knife
- Cutting board
- Serving platter or airtight container

Cut off the leafy top of the pineapple. It is best to cut about 1/4 to 1/2 inch below the base of the leafy top.

Cut off the bottom 1/4 to 1/2 inch of the pineapple to remove the end of the core.

Set the pineapple upright and begin slicing the outside rind off the pineapple. Start at the top, and slice down to the bottom.

Cut the remaining brown rind "eyes" off the pineapple with the tip of the knife or with a small paring knife.

Set the pineapple upright and cut down the center. Cut down the center again across the first cut to make four sections.

Set each of the four pineapple pieces core-side up, and slice the triangular core piece off. The core is typically slightly lighter in color and harder than the pineapple flesh.

Slice the remaining pineapple flesh into chunks.

Arrange the fresh pineapple on a serving platter if serving immediately, or store it in the refrigerator in an air-tight container.
