Want to use your PSP as an MP3 player? This article will show you how to copy and play MP3s from your PSP.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A PSP
  • A PC
  • A Memory Stick Pro Duo
  1. Step 1

Do you want to use your PSP as an MP3 player? You may be surprised at how easy it really is. The first step is to insert your Memory Stick into your PSP. From the main menu, go to the "Settings" tab, open "System Settings" from the menu, and click "Format Memory Stick". This will create the necessary folders so you don't have to do it manually.

  2. Step 2

Now you'll need a way to get the MP3s from your computer to your PSP. There's a couple of ways to do this.

If you have a newer PC, chances are there's a memory card reader of some sort on the front. If you have a Memory Stick slot, you may be able to insert it directly. If your PC is a bit older, you may need an adapter. This adapter is generally included with official Memory Sticks, so you may have one already.

The other way is to hook your PSP up via USB. Simply plug in the small end of the USB cable into the PSP, and the fat end into your PC. From the main menu, go to "Settings" and "USB Connection". In a moment, your PC will be connected and ready to access the Memory Stick directly.

  3. Step 3

Now that you've got access, from My Computer or Windows Explorer or whichever file management program you prefer, copy your MP3 files to the "MUSIC" folder on your PSP. Once they've copied, you're done! Click the "Music" tab from the main menu to select your file and rock out!

  4. Step 4

Bonus Step: You can copy CDs to your PSP from your PS3! Insert the music CD into your PS3 and go to the music tab on the menu. Insert your Memory Stick into the card reader. If your PS3 doesn't have a card reader, plug your PSP in via USB just like you did on the PC and open a USB connection. Navigate to the CD when it shows up and press triangle. Choose "Import" and it will begin copying. Once it's copied, navigate to the files on your PS3 hard drive, hit triangle on the song you want to copy, chose "Copy", select your Memory Stick, and the song will go directly where it needs to be. That's it! Simple, right?

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to backup any data on your memory stick before you format it! If you do not, you will lose any saved games or data on your PSP!
