How to Make a Spicy Hot Chocolate

I am a big fan of ingesting herbs in the food I eat-and sometimes, I like to indulge a little too. My favorite way to do this is by adding spices like cinnamon to hot chocolate. Cinnamon is a wonderful herb to help with colds and flu, weight loss and to help regulate blood sugar. You can also use nutmeg, which is helpful for digestive system problems such as indigestion, and also cardamom, which is a good digestive aid as well. All three of these are also considered aphrodisiac herbs. You can make hot chocolate using all three of these or just one. I'll describe how to make it with all three. Just be sure to use the dried, ground versions of the spices. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • 1 serving hot chocolate mix
  • Small pinch cinnamon
  • Small pinch nutmeg
  • Small pinch cardamom
  • Cinnamon stick

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare hot chocolate according to the manufacturer's instructions.

    • 2

Add the cinnamon, nutmeg, and cardamom and stir until well blended. After a while, the spices will settle and either float at the top or settle to the bottom.

    • 3

Garnish with a cinnamon stick and enjoy! You can also add some whipped cream or marshmallows if you like.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you add only a tiny amount of each spice.

  • Don't add too much nutmeg--it can be toxic in large amounts. Just a pinch will do!

  • Make sure you see a doctor if you react negatively to any of these spices.
