loosen an extremely tight lug nut while you are changing a tire.

It happens all of the time. You are stuck on the side of the road and the lugs won't budge. Adding to your frustration your arms are getting tired from the effort.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • a lug wrench
  • your body weight
  • if available WD-40
  1. Step 1

First don't get mad at your car, get mad at the last person that you had change your tires. Chances are they used an air tool and the lugs were tightened too much.
On the plus side your tires didn't fly off while you were driving.

  2. Step 2

Second you need to place your lug wrench on the lug nut. Try to get the lug wrench to lie parallel to the ground. If you are using a single lug wrench make sure the long end is facing left. Always remember lefty loosie, righty tighty.

  3. Step 3

Holding the side of your car for support stand on the left hand side of the lug wrench. Most of the time the lug nut will loosen with your body weight if not bounce a couple of times until the lug nut pops loose. If still unsuccessful spray a tiny amount of WD-40 at the base of the lug nut and try again. Do not completely remove the lug nut work around until all of the lug nuts are lose.

  4. Step 4

There are some new models of lug wrenches that are designed to easily remove stubborn lug nuts. If you have poor upper body strength or metabolicly gifted you may want to invest in one.

Tips & Warnings
  • Let the WD-40 set for a minute before trying again to loosen the lug nuts.
  • Be careful when you stand on a lug wrench you could slip off of the end.
