Things You'll Need:

  • candy thermometer.
  • 1 cup corn syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 4 cups of popcorn (your own or commercial)
  • wooden skewers for handles (about 30)
  1. Step 1

In a heavy saucepan, combine he syrup, salt, and vinegar.

Over medium heat, cook until mixture reaches 258 degrees.

Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla.

  2. Step 2

In a well buttered bowl, put your pop corn.

Pour the syrup over the corn and using a large fork, mix quickly to coat popcorn.

    Cool slightly.

  3. Step 3

Butter your hands well and picking up the popcorn, a spoonful at a time, quickly mold it into balls.

Insert the skewers and allow to cool completely.

  4. Step 4

If you want to make faces or otherwise decorate your popcorn balls, apply glazed cherries, gum drops, raisins etc.

Use syrup or icing for this rather than potentially hazardous toothpicks.

You can also tint the syrup with natural food dyes.
