Step 1
Look at the cruise excursions offered by your cruise line and book one. This is the easiest, and often the most expensive, way to book an excursion. Cruise lines offer a variety of excursions in each port that range from a little overpriced to incredibly expensive. The benefit of booking with the cruise line is that if the excursion is late getting back to the ship, the ship will either wait for you or will fly you to the next port. If you book on your own and are late, you’ll be standing on the pier waving goodbye to the departing ship, wondering how you’re going to catch up to it.

Step 2
Ask your cruising friends for travel advice. Friends are a great source of information and can give you their impressions of tours and tell you how they booked their excursions. Ask friends if they would do excursions again and find out how difficult it was to arrange the tour or excursion.
-
Step 3
Check the Internet for tour companies. Look up the Internet site for each town or city you will be visiting. Tour companies are listed on most sites and provide descriptions about the tours that are offered. Companies may have their own websites, enabling you to arrange a tour online.
-
Step 4
Take a look around the pier when you cruise docks. There will usually be plenty of tour companies around, just waiting to take you to a variety of destinations. Before you hand your money over, make sure you have a good understanding of what will be offered, how you will be transported and when you will return to the ship.

Step 5
Explore on your own. Do some Internet research before you sail and make a list of interesting things at the port city that could easily be visited in a few hours. You’ll not only deal with lower crowds, but you’ll save money too.
