Step 1
Buy what you already understand. For small business owners, this is probably inclusive accounting software, such as QuickBooks, that allows you to set specific report parameters, your own personal chart of accounts and allows you to use the internet for storing information, sending statements and networking.
-
Step 2
If QuickBooks is too advanced for your needs, try its little sister, Quicken, a user-friendly accounting software that allows an individual to set up a budget and track expenses, pinpointing areas of waste.
-
Step 3
Ask your accountant before you buy an accounting software program if you intend to copy your data for uploading into your accountant’s main bookkeeping program. Some accountants use a master copy of QuickBooks that reads all other copies, others use Peachtree and, if so, it will benefit you to use the same program.
-
Step 4
Consider downloading a free accounting program from the internet if you want to see what the software can do for you before investing in a name brand program. Delta accounting software is free to download and try. (See Resources Below)
