Even in today’s tight economy, you should be able to enjoy doing the things that make life fun for you. I know my hobbies help define who I am, and keep me less stressed so I can be who I want to be. If this is the same for you, learn how to budget for your hobby here so that you can afford it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • a hobby
  • a savings attitude
  1. Step 1

First, pick a hobby you can afford. Seriously, yachting is not going to happen on a social worker’s salary. If you enjoy doing something that is that far away from your pay scale, it’s special, not a hobby.

  2. Step 2

Set a limited amount of money that you will be able to spend on your hobby per month and put that amount aside.

  3. Step 3

Hobby’s require things, tools to do the hobby. Make a wish list of things you want to get for your hobby and slowly buy them as you have the amount saved monthly for each item.

  4. Step 4

Does your hobby make other’s happy? By all means, use it to give gifts and reimburse yourself. I enjoy making cards and use them for birthdays and other occasions. Instead of spending my money on buying cards, I spend my money on stickers and paper to enjoy making the cards.

  5. Step 5

Get together with others who enjoy the same hobby. This is very motivational and you can share or trade things for your hobby.

  6. Step 6

Look for free ways to enjoy your hobby. If you like to knit, your church may have a Pray Shawl program where you can knit and they’ll provide the yarn. Think outside of the box.
