do a Chakra Tarot spread

This Tarot spread is interesting in that it is based on the seven Chakras of the body. It can give an all-encompassing look at what is going on in the querent's life.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Shuffle the cards and cut into three decks. If you are reading for someone else, have that person shuffle and cut the cards. Lay them out one at a time and concentrate on the position of the card and the interpretation in relation to that position.

  2. Step 2

The first position is the "root" Chakra. This is the root of the problem or the question that has been asked. What is the basis of the issue? This card will show it, even if it is something that you or the person you are reading for may not realize consciously. The root position relates to the beginning of awareness, grounding, stability, health, material things. Its colors are red and black, and it is of the Earth element. It is associated with garnet, ruby, bloodstone, and obsidian.

  3. Step 3

The second position is the "sacral" Chakra. This shows what gives the querent sexual satisfaction or pleasure in general, or what he/she would like to be doing in that area. Do you derive pleasure from gardening, dancing, working with children? This card will show aspects of what gives you pleasure. The sacral position denotes the dwelling place of self, creativity, sexuality, and strong emotions. Its color is orange and its element is water. Its associations are carnelian, coral, amber, and citrine.

  4. Step 4

The third position is the "power" Chakra. This shows where your power lies, or what makes you feel powerful, not necessarily in lording it over others, but in establishing strength in your life. The power position is all about will, energy, transformation, humor, and laughter. Its color is yellow and its element is fire, and its associations are citrine, tiger eye, amber, and gold.

  5. Step 5

The fourth position is the "heart" Chakra. Where does your heart lie? What do you love? This card will show these things. It represents connection with deity, life force, compassion, balance, peace, harmony, and contentment. Its colors are green and pink and its element is air. Its associations are emerald, malachite, rose quartz, and ruby.

  6. Step 6

The fifth position is the "communication" Chakra. This will show how you commmunicate, how you need to communicate. Not only in relationships, but in creative ways such as writing, art, or in your work. Speech, sound and vibration are connected with this position. Its qualities are honesty, knowledge, wisdom, creative expression, the arts, reliability, and kindness. Its color is blue, its element is ether. Turqoise, blue topaz, lapis lazuli, and aquamarine are its associations.

  7. Step 7

The sixth position is the "psyche" Chakra. Think of this as knowledge of being. This is where your thinking is in relation to the question, or will show how you need to be thinking. It represents vision, insight, intuition, concentration, imagination, and clairvoyance. Its color is indigo, its element is light. Its associations are azurite, clear quartz, and sapphire.

  8. Step 8

The seventh and last position is the "crown" Chakra. This position more or less sums up or ties together all the previous positions. It represents thought, will, understanding, unity of mind and spirit, and perception beyond space and time. Its color is purple and its element is will. Associations include diamond, clear quartz, and amethyst.

  9. Step 9

Look at all the cards and how they relate to one another. The Chakras are all dependent on each other to work in balance, and you may find one or more that are not in harmony with the others. This may be where you need to focus your energies in relation to the question asked. Always remember, a Tarot reading is NOT a definitive answer or prediction as to what actions you should take. It is a tool to better help you understand yourself and what is going on in your life, and to illuminate things that may lie in your unconscious, or perhaps things that are either out of your control or hidden from you in some way.

Tips & Warnings
  • Temper your interpretations by looking at all the cards as a whole. Each card will be influenced by the others.
  • The Osho Zen Tarot works well with this spread, though any set of cards will do well.
  • Do not take any action based solely on a Tarot reading.

on 10/9/2008 My husband is the one who taught me this spread, and he likes to do it with the Osho Zen Tarot. He finds it a bit more definitive than the traditional tarot. Yes, do tell me how you like it!

on 10/6/2008 I have never done my own Tarot reading, but coincidentally, I own a set of the Osho Zen cards. They belonged to my step father who left them to me when he died 16 years ago. I think a great way to finally use them is with this spread. I'll let you know how my reading turns out.
