Things You'll Need:
- 2 8 or 9 inch cake pans. (Buttered and floured to prevent sticking)
- 2 cups self rising flour
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup softened unsalted butter
- If you want a colored cake: red/green, 1/2 teaspoon food coloring
-
Step 1
Mix milk and vanilla together and set aside.
-
Step 2
Cream butter and sugar together.
Add eggs one at a time and mix well after each egg. -
Step 3
Add flour and milk alternately.
-
Step 4
Coloring your cake. If you what it purple because your kids love Barney? Red for Valentines? Red for Superman w/ Blue Icing and a Red S on the top. Green or Yellow: Whatever your occasion? Be CREATIVE!!!
Add 1/2 teaspoon of desired color to batter and mix thoroughly. You can even make two different colors if you like. -
Step 5
Add mixture to cake pans and bake 400 degrees F for about 30 minutes or until inserted toothpick comes out clean.
-
Step 6
I like to freeze my cakes before frosting them. It prevents them from being damaged while frosting and a child could even frost it. My kids love too do this.
For Frosting see my ehow article. How to make Butter Cream Frosting.
