Make fantastic pulled pork the easy way.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 Boneless Pork Shoulder
  • 2 cups water
  • 1.5 cups apple cider vinegar
  • 1.5 cups brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp coarse black pepper
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 bottle store-bought barbecue sauce
  • chili powder, to taste
  1. Step 1

Set a large pot to boil on the stovetop with water, vinegar and sugar in it.

  2. Step 2

Trim fat from pork and cut it into manageable pieces (about the size of a fist). Place into pot.

  3. Step 3

Pour the other ingredients over the pork pieces, and stir the mixture. Pour about 2/3 of the bottle of barbecue sauce in. Turn heat to a low boil and cover.

  4. Step 4

Cook until a piece of pork cut in half doesn't contain any pink (15-30 minutes, depending on quantity of meat and size of pieces).

  5. Step 5

Remove pork from water and turn heat off. Place pork into a glass cake dish or other dish with sides.

  6. Step 6

Pull pork chunks apart with two forks in a shredding motion. Shred to desired size.

  7. Step 7

Pour about 2/3 cup of liquid from the pot over pork, and discard the rest. Pour remaining barbecue sauce over pork, and turn over pork until sauce coats evenly.

  8. Step 8

Serve on sandwiches, over texas toast or alone. Don't forget the cole slaw!

Tips & Warnings
  • The barbecue sauce at the end is strictly optional - you will certainly taste the sugar and vinegar better without it. I just love barbecue sauce! Experiment to see how much of a pulled-pork purist you are.

on 11/6/2008 Great idea we don't have a grill right now so this would be good.
