Things You'll Need:
- Watermelon
- Potato Masher
- Fine Filter
- Salt
- Sugar
- Large Bowl
- Pitcher
-
Step 1
Cut open a watermelon and then spoon out the contents into a large bowl.
-
Step 2
Grab the potato masher and get to work like it's Thanksgiving! Mash, mash, mash until all the juice is out of the meat. Then remove the meat from the bowl and continue to mash. The watermelon that has most of it's juice squeezed out looks different in texture to the rest of the watermelon.
-
Step 3
As you progress, the bowl will become filled with juice and you'll need to get rid of it in order to effectively mash the watermelon. When that happens, get a pitcher and pour the melon juice in there.
-
Step 4
Once you have collected the juice of the melon, give the bowl a quick rinse and then grab a fine filter (I use a stainless steel coffee filter). Pour the juice from the pitcher through the filter and into the bowl. Empty the filter as needed. This will give you a smooth juice, so don't skip this step unless you fancy drinking applesauce.
-
Step 5
Once all the juice is filtered, rinse the pitcher and put the juice back inside. Add water, then sugar and salt to taste. The salt might sound like an odd thing to add, but trust me, it's essential.
-
Step 6
Chill and serve.
