What can we say about the Chicago Cubs, they've been called the loveable losers for years. No matter how bad they are fans still pack Wrigley Field. So much at times it's hard to get tickets. We had one year we had to travel to Milwaukee and Cincinnati just to see the Cubs play.
The Cubs have not won a World Series for 100 years. All us true Cubs fans hope this is the year! We've had enough with all the superstitious thinking. No more Black Cats, No more goats. We imploded the ball from 2003. Murphy's law no longer applies. All we can say is Go Cubs!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tickets
  • Radio
  • Camera
  • Money
  • Backpack full of goodies
  • Extra clothes for cold days
  • Rain coat (just in case)
  • Cooler of food for tailgating
  1. Step 1
    Mesa AZ

    Mesa AZ

Buy tickets. This may sound easy but unless you live on Clark and Addison tickets can be hard to get. They go on sale in Feb before spring training starts. In 2004 we went to Mesa AZ to 2 Spring Training games. Tickets were cheaper and much easier to get. Plan a vacation and go.

  2. Step 2

Now that you have tickets to see the Cubs, Plan, Plan, Plan! Pack a cooler full of food & lots of snacks for your trip. For us it's a 2 hour trip one way. It's a whole day adventure.

  3. Step 3
    Miller Park

    Miller Park

Check the time of your game. There was a time when the game got changed to another stadium. This year we had to borrow the Brewer's Stadium (Miller Park) because of all the rain in Houston. Also they may have a TBD time on your ticket not yet setting the time. And they may decide to make it the game of the week for T.V. Get the correct time.

  4. Step 4
    Tailgating at his first game

    Tailgating at his first game

Allow extra time for traveling, walking from parking spot, getting a bite to eat. You want to be in the stadium at least 1 hour early. You want to hit the restroom and get your program on the way to your seat.

  5. Step 5
    Vines on Wall

    Vines on Wall

Once you're at your seat, take in the beauty of the vines on the wall, the manually operated scoreboard, roof top setters and batting practice. Of course you want to hear the singing of the National Anthem. It also gives you time to get your munchies out of your backpack. It is allowed to take things in. Just don't take cans or glass bottles. Take sealed bottles of water too.

  6. Step 6
    WGN Radio

    WGN Radio

Get your radio out of your bag put your headset on and listen to Pat and Ron on WGN.

  7. Step 7
    Crew singing 7th inning stretch

    Crew singing 7th inning stretch

Big tradition is the 7th inning stretch. Stand up and sing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame". Don't worry whether you sound good. They'll have someone up in the booth that typically will sound worse than you. Ozzy Osborne couldn't even remember any of the words. He just mumbled the tune.

  8. Step 8
    Cubs Win

    Cubs Win

Of course after the Chicago Cubs have won just rejoice very loudly! Since you won't be able to get very far very fast with the crowd, take your time and stop to have your picture taken with the statues of Harry Carey and Ernie Banks.

  9. Step 9
    Home after the Cubs Game

    Home after the Cubs Game

The Cubs management has Cubs appreciation days all during the year if you are lucky enough to be there on the right day. Plus the last home game series they have a Fans appreciation tent sale. This is the time to stock up on all that Cubs gear and buy Christmas gifts.

  10. Step 10

Well as all should have heard by now my lovable losing Cubs lost again. Swept again in the MLB playoffs. Who would have believed it to happen again this year. They had a great season. Oh well as we say there's always next year :~)

Tips & Warnings
  • If the Cubs are losing listen for "Boy Oh Boy" from Ron Santo
  • Take friends and relatives with you. It's so much fun!
  • Chicago Cubs are the NL Central Division Champions again!
  • Get the new book, Hoodoo: Unraveling the 100-Year Mystery of the Chicago Cubs

on 4/27/2009 Sounds like a great day out to the Cubs -- my son is a freshman at Northwestern and going to a game soon. Tickets are that hard to get? Wow.

on 2/18/2009 I've never been to a major league BB game in my life. I think a Cubs game would be a cool first game to go to.
