Things You'll Need:
- Separate food bowls
- Multiple waterbowls
- Multiple beds
- Empty coffee cans or soda cans
- Coins
-
Step 1
ALWAYS feed dogs separately. They are territorial by nature and need their own feeding bowls and feeding locations. Having more than one watering spot will keep them from fighting over water bowls.
-
Step 2
Beware of garages or sheds becoming guarded territories. Dogs will claim these locations and will guard entrances. Keep smaller doors closed and only allow them inside the garage when the LARGE door is open.
-
Step 3
Treat the first dog you adopted as "Top Dog". You need to decide who is Alpha, do not let the dogs fight to figure this out. Pet your Alpha first, leash your Alpha first, put down the Alpha's food bowl first. Let the Alpha inside first, etc.
-
Step 4
Find something the dogs thoroughly enjoy TOGETHER, such as walking or a visit to the park. This will help to create bonds of friendship. Enter them into common territory AFTER these fun excursions.
-
Step 5
Keep empty cans of coins in areas where dogs might fight: indoors, outdoors, garage areas, or specific rooms. Secure the lids with Duct Tape. Use the loud noise of the can to discourage growls or lip curls right from the start.
