The wedding is over, the honeymoon came and went, and now you have a long list of thank you notes to write. The task can seem overwhelming, but writing wedding thank you notes can be very simple. Learn how to write a personal thank you note to each of your wedding guests.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Thank you note cards
  • A good pen
  • Envelopes
  • Stamps
  1. Step 1

    MENTION THE GIFT
Start the note by thanking the person for the specific item that they gave you. For gifts or store gift cards, "Thank you so much for the [Insert item here]." If they gave you money, write "Thank you so much for the generous wedding gift."

  2. Step 2

    DESCRIBE YOUR USE
Let the guest know how useful the gift is to you. Some examples: "We’re looking forward to serving Thanksgiving dinner on our new china" or "We already used the waffle iron for Sunday brunch, and it works great!"

If they gave money, let them know what you plan to use that money for (e.g. "It will really help us as we prepare to buy a house," or "It helped us pay for our honeymoon").

  3. Step 3

    GET PERSONAL
Close the thank you note with a personal message to the guests. Some suggestions:

"Thank you for attending our wedding. It meant a lot to us that you could be there, and we hope you enjoyed it. We’ll have to get together again soon."

"Thank you for flying in for our wedding. It meant so much to us that you were able to travel so far to share our special day."

"We’re sorry you weren’t able to make the wedding, and really appreciate your gift. Hopefully we can get together and share photos next time we’re in town."

  4. Step 4

    SIGN YOUR NAMES
Both the bride and the groom should sign every single wedding thank you note. Sign the card, address and stamp the envelope and send it on its way.

Tips & Warnings
  • Send all thank you notes within two months of the wedding.
  • Keep a list detailing which gift is from what guest as you open them.
  • Write notes for gifts received before the wedding right away. You’ll be glad to have a handful of cards done before you return from your honeymoon.
  • Split the card writing duties with your new husband or wife. Open a bottle of wine and make an evening of it.
