Step 1
Learn what sells and what doesn’t. Nonfiction books sell at a much higher price, and the rarer the book, the more money you will make. However, if it isn’t a popular topic, it might not sell at all. It is a gamble in the beginning, but eventually you learn which books can be sold at a higher rate.
-
Step 2
Recognize where to find sources for books to refill your shelves. Become friendly with other readers, with your neighbors, and see if they will donate books to you, or perhaps you can pay them a dollar or two per book. Shop through garage sales, used book stores, and second hand shops to find additional books. You can also offer to pay a small fee for people’s books, some people prefer to get money right away, rather than wait around for a sale.
-
Step 3
Know how much your book is worth. It helps if you are familiar with how to search eBay or how to search Amazon for book prices. Using these sources, you will be able to price your book competitively.
-
Step 4
Post your book, either on your website, or post the book on book sale sites, like half.com, Amazon.com, eBay.com and other sites. If you post books on your own website, you’ll need to spend some money advertising. It might be worthwhile to start out selling books at Half, Amazon, etc., at first, and then as you build your business, start selling books via your own site.
