Things You'll Need:
- Pot with top
- eggs
- water
- timer
-
Step 1
Place your eggs in an empty pot
-
Step 2
Cover the eggs with cold water so that the water is about an inch or two above the eggs
-
Step 3
Put the top on the pot and place on the stovetop over medium high heat. The water should boil in approximately 5-7 minutes. You don't want the water to boil too quickly because the extreme change in temperature may cause the eggs to crack and if the water is boiling fervently then the eggs may be cracked that way as well.
-
Step 4
Once the water begins to boil, remove the pot from the stove and place on a cold burner with the top on for about 10 minutes.
-
Step 5
Immerse the eggs in cold water for a minute or two to stop the cooking process (this will also make the eggs easier to peel)

on 3/1/2009 Nicely written. Boiled eggs are wonderful to have on hand for snacking.

on 9/29/2008 I believe the only thing that adding salt to the water does is make the water boil at a higher temperature. The cracking does come from cooking the eggs to quickly at too high of a temperature, so in this case i would say that adding salt would actually increase your chances of cracking eggs. Also, adding vinegar to the water is supposed to make peeling the eggs easier, but i never mess with that because i never have a problem and i don't even know if it works.

on 9/29/2008 Question? Does adding salt to the water before boiling prevents the eggs from cracking? or the cracking comes from cooking to fast, to hot? thx
