So, you've made the commitment to own your own travel business. Congratulations! Now what? Follow these steps to get you started on your path to financial freedom through the online travel industry.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Online travel website (for example: www.GoBeyondTickets.com through the YTB Travel Network)
  • Business Cards
  • E-mail address
  • Patience and Persistence
  1. Step 1

Purchase your online travel website. I chose YTB because it is a company and product I can stand by. Do your due diligence and chose a company that you are proud to represent. Once you purchase your site through YTB, you need to choose a name and then buy its domain. Choose a catchy name like GoBeyondTickets.com. There are directions on how to forward your site through the YTB Back office.

  2. Step 2

People need to know about your website in order for it to be successful. Send an e-mail announcing your new business to every contact in your address book. Tell them to add their name to your Steals and Deals newsletter (easy marketing that you don't have to worry about... perfect) so they are constantly being updated about travel deals.

  3. Step 3

Design business cards! YTB has already designed cards all set for you through Vistaprint.com. These are fantastic, but I would recommend designing your own. I used www.Overnightprints.com. That way, you can advertise exactly what your site does through the card (way less explanation on your part).

  4. Step 4

Go to training. YTB offers many archived conference calls to provide you with as much information as possible. Attend the First Class Training ASAP. It is very hard to market something you don't understand.

  5. Step 5

Once you receive your business cards, talk about your business to everyone. My goal is to hand out 20 business cards per day. This also includes leaving a stack at the local coffee shop, theaters... etc. Any place where people drop off business cards, GoBeyondTickets.com will be advertised.

  6. Step 6

Have a party! Any legitimate business has a grand opening, why shouldn't yours? Set a day with your upline and invite as many people as you can fit in your house. Show a brief presentation explaining your new business so your friends know exactly what your website is about. This is also a good way to start building your team if you signed up as a REP.

  7. Step 7

Research local papers to place advertisements. If you are on a restricted budget, it is best to start small. Design your ad for your business and place them in local papers (college papers, the Pennysaver, newsletters).

  8. Step 8

Branch out to the internet. Facebook ads are highly targeted and reach a mass audience. Also, Google and Yahoo ads are another way to reach the masses in a highly targeted fashion.

  9. Step 9

Go to your groups! Send letters announcing your business to your church, sorority, book club... etc. Group travel is the best way to make commissions so let them know you are available for all of their travel needs.

  10. Step 10

Repeat steps 7-9 for all of the specialty products that YTB offers. Buy a domain for your Flowers site and market it (especially closer to February). Create a Golf site specifically for golf tee times and golf vacation packages. Market your Honeymoon Registry specifically to wedding sites. You know the drill. Now do it!
