Prefold diapers come unwashed and you have to prep them before you can use them. Basically, you prep them by washing them multiple times to fluff the fabric and remove oils to make them more absorbent.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Prefolds need to be washed 5 or 6 times before they are ready to use. Do not wash with other diapers until they are fully prepped because the oils in the prefolds could ruin your other diapers.

  2. Step 2

Wash in hot water with or without a small amount of detergent. You do not need extra rinses to remove the excess soap. You may want to not use detergent for the last couple washings instead.

  3. Step 3

Prefolds are practically impossible to ruin through washing, you can wash them with your regular clothes while you prep.

  4. Step 4

Drying in between washes may help fluff them faster.

  5. Step 5

Alternately, you can prep your prefolds by boiling in a large pot on the stove for 30 minutes and then wash two times.
