Things You'll Need:
- A laser color printer
- A paint prgram on your computer
- A scanner (optional)
- Decal paper, such as Superscale or ScaleMaster (available at hobby shops)
- A clear gloss paint (available at hobby shops)
- Printer paper
-
Step 1
Choose the image:
If you already have your decal on your computer, transfer it to Microsoft Word. I've found that MS Word makes it very easy to adjust the size of the decal, and the built in rulers are a plus too.
If you don't have your image already, you can create it in a paint program, and then either resize it in the paint program itself, or cut and paste it into a word document. This will depend on the paint program, as some are easier to work with than others.
As a third option, you can hand draw your decal, and scan it into your computer. Depending on the program, you can adjust your image accordingly once it has been scanned, or you can cut and past into a paint or word program, and do it there. -
Step 2
Test print:
Do a couple of test prints on the printer paper, so as not to waste the decal paper. This way you can see exactly what size, color and print quality your decal will have. Make adjustments as needed, and print out as many test copies as needed until you are satisfied with the final product. -
Step 3
The Final Print:
Make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions! -
Step 4
Apply You Decal:
Sometimes if I'm not completely sure about the exact positioning, I'll use a LIGHT pencil or washable marker line to mark out where I want to place my new decal, but that it up to you. Just make sure that the surface it completely cleared of ink/pencil before application. -
Step 5
Add a Sealer:
Use the clear paint to seal in the color. This also protect the design, and make the decal plastic last longer by protecting it from cracking.
