Be sure that you know the alphabet front and back, and that you are comfortable with it. This is imperative if you want to be able to place words in alphabetical order. If you don't know your alphabet yet, you might want to consider purchasing a phonics reading program that will help you gain a clear understanding of the order of the Alphabet and the phonic sounds that each letter makes. There are many reading programs online designed to help you learn to read or improve your phonics skills.

Look at the list of words that you need to alphabetize. "A" is the first letter in the alphabet, so you need to find any and all words that begin with the letter "A". These words come first on your list of alphabetized words. Next, look for words that start with the letter "B"; they will be alphabetized immediately after your "A" words. Continue this process through the entire alphabet in order, or until you don't have any other words left.

If you find that you have more than one word that starts with the same letter, for example, two words that begin with the letter "A", look at the second letter of each word. If there is a letter "A" as the second letter in either of the words, that word would come first in your list. If both words have a letter "A" as their second letter, look at their third letter, and so on.

Repeat this process until all of your words have been alphabetized. Voila! You now know how to alphabetize a list of words. :)

You did a really good job of putting this article into words; seriously, alphabetizing words, I think, is something most of us can do automatically, but telling someone how to do it is really difficult. Enjoyed this article!
