How to Write Directions for Making Something in Sequential Order

When you write directions for making something you must write all the steps in order. A project would turn out badly if the first step said to paint a clay cup and the second step said to form the clay into a cup. The first step should be to make the cup from clay. The next step should be to paint the cup.

      Write one or two words that tell about the directions you are giving.Example: Make a picture

      Make a list of everything that a person will need to make a picture. Example: markers, paper

      Make a list of the steps the person will need to take to make the picture. Example:--Get a piece of colored paper--Give the picture to a parent--Color the picture with markers--Draw a picture on the paper

      Write the steps in the order that they should be done. Remove any step that does not belong. Example:--Get a piece of colored paper and some markers.--Draw a picture on the paper.--Color the picture with markers.--Give your picture to a parent.

      Use words such as first, second, third or first, next, finally, or use numbers (1, 2, 3, 4) when giving instructions.
