Gingerbread Man

One of the symbols of Christmas is the tasty gingerbread man. Grandmothers often make gingerbread men with their grandchildren. The grandchildren love this because they get to decorate the gingerbread men with outfits and funny faces. Shrinky Dink gingerbread men also allow children to decorate to their hearts' content but with pencil crayons instead of real icing. Although this craft can not be eaten, it can be enjoyed for many years.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shrinky Dink sheets
  • Oven
  • Cookie sheet
  • Pencil crayons
  • Scissors
  1. Step 1

Purchase a package of Shrinky Dink sheets. They cost $3 and $5 per package. Your local craft store should have these, but if not you can buy them from the original makers of Shrinky Dink. The website is listed in Resources below.

  2. Step 2

Remove a Shrinky Dink sheet from the package and place it rough side up. Lay the smooth side against your work area.

  3. Step 3

Use a black pencil crayon to draw an outline of a gingerbread man. This is not hard, and you can do it by looking at the picture above.

  4. Step 4

Color the gingerbread man in with your pencil crayons. Make the gingerbread man brown, but give him an outfit, some hair, a funny face or laced up shoes. There is no limit to what you can do if you want to be creative and original.

  5. Step 5

Cut out the gingerbread man with your scissors. Make sure you leave a clear space all the way around. This will compensate for the shrinking that is going to occur.

  6. Step 6

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.

  7. Step 7

Place the Shrinky Dink rough side up, which is the side that has color on it, on the cookie sheet.

  8. Step 8

Place the Shrinky Dink gingerbread man in the oven for 60 seconds and remove.

  9. Step 9

Allow to cool and then use.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a hole puncher to punch a hole in the gingerbread man. Slide a string through the hole and hang from the Christmas tree.
  • Place a magnet strip on the back of the gingerbread man and stick on the refrigerator.
  • Keep a close eye on the gingerbread man in the oven. It can burn in a matter of seconds.
