The HP CP1700 Series of printers features a rear access panel which provides a path for printing on media that may be too thick or too heavy for the conventional paper trays to handle. You can use the rear manual feed to print card stock or heavy weight photo paper or any time you want the media you are printing on to travel straight through the printer to prevent wrinkles or tearing. Using the manual rear feed can be time consuming however, as you can print only one sheet at a time.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine whether the print application you wish to use supports media of user-defined size. If so, set the size in the application prior to creating the document. If the application does not support user-defined size, set the size in the driver prior to creating the document.

    • 2

Open the print driver. Select the Options tab and single left-click to open it. Single left-click on the Rear Manual Feed option. Select the Paper Size tab and single left-click to open it. Single left-click on the size of the media you wish to print on. Single left-click the OK button to close the Printer Properties dialog box. Single left-click OK again to send the print job to the printer.

    • 3

Turn the printer so you have easy access to the rear of the printer. Press the two buttons on either side of the rear access panel simultaneously to release the panel. Pull the rear access panel out and set it aside.

    • 4

Insert one sheet of print media into the rear feed slot with the short side first, print side up and aligned along the left side of the slot. Insure the media does not feed at a slant.

    • 5

Push the sheet of print media in as far as it will go, but don’t force it. Allow the printer to detect the media and draw it slightly further in. Printing will begin automatically.

    • 6

Change the paper tray selection back to Tray 1 once you have finished using the rear manual feed. Place the rear access panel back into place and press until the buttons snap into place.
