  1. How to Write an eBay Post

    • 1

Before you take a picture of the item you want to sell, test and inspect it. You don't want to have to refund money because your 5-disc DVD changer will play only the first disc. Likewise, you don't want someone giving you negative feedback because your great looking Fender Guitar has a big dent in the back. Write down all the issues you can find in the item you're selling and be sure you list them in the auction.

    • 2

Photograph your item. Be sure to include pictures of any scratches, dents, nicks or other cosmetic issues you find. Also, take a closeup picture of any manufacture tags or insignia. You can do this with any digital camera. Just make sure you have a way to transfer the pictures from the camera onto your computer.

Review your pictures. Make sure all of them are clear. You don't want to have a fuzzy or blurry picture in your auction.

    • 4

Research your item. You'll want to include all pertinent information in your auction. For example, if you're selling a notebook computer, you'll need to include the Hard Drive space, RAM, whether it has a DVD-ROM and any operating systems included on the computer. The more information you find to put in your auction, the less questions you'll have to answer while bidding is going on.

Now to the writing. There are millions of items posted on eBay every day, so be sure your auction is clear and easy to read. If there is only 3 minutes left on the auction, most people will skip over long paragraphs so try to keep that in mind. Short, simple sentences are the best.

Tips & Warnings

  • When photographing laptop computers, do not take a picture of the bottom portion of the laptop. There are sensitive numbers on the underside that people can steal in order to register operating systems and such.

  • It's good to have a place in your auction that states exactly what is included. If you do not have the power cord to the item, this would be a great place to mention that.

  • Remember to write your own descriptions. It is against eBay policy to copy and paste someone's description as your own.
