How to Make a Small Glass Table

By purchasing simple, round glass tabletops you can place on top of the base of your choice, you have an unlimited source for small glass tables you can place in your living room, den, sunroom, or bedroom. Here's an example of a small glass table you can make quite inexpensively. It makes a perfect side table for a living room with a nature theme.

Things You'll Need:

  • A round, sturdy glass tabletop without a base
  • Eighteen wooden logs about 3” in diameter of equal height. The length of the logs will be determined by how high you want your finished table to be. Twenty inches is a good length for a side table.
  • Heavy duty glue for bonding wood. Ask at your hardware store. As an alternative you can bind the logs together with thick wire
  1. Step 1

    Gather your supplies.

    You can buy logs to make your small glass table from a sawmill or a lumber supply company. Make sure the logs are equal in length before purchasing. Glass tabletops in various sizes can be purchased online. A good size for a side table is about 36 inches in diameter. Heavy duty glue or wrapping wire can be purchased from a hardware store. Use a wrapping wire with a rusted finish to add additional character to your glass table base.

  2. Step 2

    Glue or wrap the logs.

    Glue the logs securely together according to the instructions. Allow them to set overnight before using. Alternatively, wrap the logs several inches from the top using thick, heavy duty wire. Encircle the logs five times. Wrap the base of the logs several inches from the bottom using the same technique.

  3. Step 3

    Set up your table.

    Locate a suitable area of your living area for the table. Place your bundle of logs upright on the floor. Gently place the glass tabletop on top of the cluster of logs. Make the logs are centered in the middle to serve as a secure base. Stand back and admire your new table!

  4. Step 4

    A convenient aspect of making small glass tables using a glass tabletop and a base is you can create a whole new table by simply moving the glass top to a different base. Bases can be made out of a variety of unusual items including a stack of almost anything that's sturdy, a large vase turned upside down, or a tall wooden box or trash can. It gives you lots of flexibility and creative freedom. Use your imagination and see what ideas you can come up with to make your own unique small glass tables.
