How to Sew a Clothes Pin Bag

Drying your clothes on a clothesline is just one way you can make your home more green. Sewing a simple clothes pin bag will keep your clothespins organized in one place until you're ready to use them on the next laundry day.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 fabric fat quarter
  • Ribbon trim
  • Snaps
  • Snap press
  • Thread
  • Sewing machine
  • Rotary cutter
  • Self-healing cutting mat
  • Pins
  • Tailor's chalk
  1. Step 1

Lay your fat quarter out in front of you so that the long end is vertical and the short end is horizontal (a fat quarter measures 18 by 22 inches). Use your rotary cutter and self-healing mat to cut the fabric in half lengthwise to create two 9 by 22 inches pieces of fabric.

  2. Step 2

Take one piece, measure it into thirds then cut at the 1/3 mark to create two pieces. This is going to create the opening of your bag.

  3. Step 3

Sew the trim onto the edges of the bag opening then pin the all three pieces together with the right sides together.

  4. Step 4

Sew the bag together with a 1/2-inch seam allowance and turn it right-side out.

  5. Step 5

Lay the bag in front of you with the opening near the top edge, then fold the top edge over by two inches. Use tailor's chalk to mark where you want to place your snaps. Follow the snap press instructions to install your snaps. This snapping flap will keep your bag safely hung up on the clothesline.
