Abercrombie & Fitch clothes are known to be preppy, popular and pricey. When you're indulging, you want to make sure you get the real thing for the cash you're paying. It's OK to try to save a little by buying the brand secondhand or from nonretail locations, but make sure you're getting the authentic thing.

How to Spot Fake Abercrombie Clothes

  1. Step 1

Get the basics down first. Familiarize yourself with the Abercrombie & Fitch style, its logo, the buttons and toggles it use, the fabrics it choose and the typical cut of its designs. Knowledge will be your best defense against buying fakes.

  2. Step 2

Check out the inside tag first. If the inside label lists anything other than Abercrombie & Fitch, it's a fake. Often, counterfeiters will take cheap T-shirts and iron graphics on, but forget about the old label. This is a dead give-away.

  3. Step 3

Scrutinize the Abercrombie logo. Counterfeiters often make the Abercrombie & Fitch symbol extra large to get across the point that it's an Abercrombie product. They also enlarge the moose logo that the brand typically uses. Make sure the logo used matches how the Abercrombie logo is used on that particular product.

  4. Step 4

Feel the fabric. Abercrombie, for the most part, uses quality fabrics. Fakes often have cheap fabrics to save money. Feel the fabric for quality and check the stitching to make sure it's well sewn.

  5. Step 5

Match the product to current or former Abercrombie clothes. If you've never seen it before or it doesn't look like the products the brand has, it's fake.

  6. Step 6

Be wary of the seller. If he is selling products in bulk or at a huge discount, chances are he is selling fakes. Abercrombie & Fitch doesn't sell its products in bulk, so there's not much of a way to get a huge discount on Abercrombie unless you find a big clearance.

  7. Step 7

Ask for more pictures when buying online. If they're selling genuine products, they won't hesitate. Only counterfeiters will stall when asked questions.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be wary. Check feedback on all online sellers and be picky about who you buy from.
