How to Choose Halloween Costumes for Dogs
What would Halloween be without costumes? Some people have even gone so far as to dress up their dogs. The only downside is that not all costumes are suited for all types of dogs. Choosing the wrong costume could cause your pet to become injured. Obviously, this isn't something you would do intentionally, but it does happen. That's why it's important to choose the right Halloween costumes for dogs.

1
Measure your dog to determine the size of costume needed. It's important to take the time to properly measure your dog. If you just assume that your pet is a size medium, you may choose a costume that is too big. Each manufacturer is different, but most pet clothing is sized by the size of the dog's chest or length. Look closely at the package, or website, and then measure your dog accordingly.

2
Consider your dog's energy level. Dogs who are extremely energetic can quickly remove Halloween costumes. They may slip out of the costume or tear it apart. If your dog is overly energetic, you may want to choose a simple Halloween costume that includes a cute hat and scarf. On the other hand, dogs that are calm usually do well with full costumes.

3
Select a costume that's high-quality. When buying Halloween costumes for dogs, it's important to not choose cheap costumes. If the costume is made of cheap materials, dogs will be able to tear them quickly or they may simply fall apart. Either of these situations can cause your pet to become injured.

4
Make sure the costume allows for bathroom breaks. Never choose a costume that fully covers the dog's back half. The best costume will be cut to allow enough room for the pet to take a bathroom break. Otherwise, you will have quite a mess to clean up.
-
5
Choose a simple costume. Dogs aren't crazy about having several pieces of clothing piled onto their bodies. Instead of choosing a complicated costume, with several pieces, choose a costume that has only one or two pieces. This ensures that your dog is more comfortable, and you don't have to spend hours getting them dressed.

Some dogs don't even tolerate a scarf and hat. My larger dogs are perfectly happy in a bow or bandanna while my little Boston Terrier runs around in a full costume with horns, cape, etc. -
