      As the pomegranate grows, the exterior shell turns from yellow to a rich, red color.

      As the fruit ripens on the bush, it becomes heavier.

      When the ripened fruit is lightly tapped, it will make a metallic sound.

      When the fruit is close to bursting, it is perfectly ripe. This often happens soon after a rainfall.

Tips & Warnings

  • Pomegranates should be stored in a cool, dark place. If kept in a refrigerator unpeeled, they can stay fresh for a couple of months.

  • If the skin has cracked, pick immediately and eat as soon as possible.
