How to Make a Tube Snowman

A cute tube snowman is easily made by creating a tube from felt and adding snowman characteristics. He would be a great craft project for a school class or a kid's club. Make up the tubes and hats ahead of time and allow the kids to assemble the tube snowmen using their imaginations and personalities. They are easy to craft in a short amount of time, making it simple to produce a small tube snowman family with all the trimmings.

Things You'll Need

• Off-white felt
• Navy blue felt
• Small amount of yarn
• Chenille bedspread
• 3 flat white 1/2-inch buttons
• Flat pink 1/2-inch button
• Black dimensional fabric paint
• Stuffing
• Sewing machine
• Tapestry needle
• Off-white crochet cotton thread
• Scissors
• Craft glue
• Matching thread
• Blush and cotton swab

Instructions

1. Cut one piece of off-white felt, 10 inches wide by 12 inches tall, for the tube snowman's body.

2. Fold the off-white piece in half, matching the 10-inch sides. Sew a 1/4-inch seam allowance to connect the 10-inch sides together and create a tube.

3. Sew a running stitch around one end of the tube and gather the end tightly closed. Tie off and clip threads. Turn the tube right-side out and fill it firmly with stuffing. Sew a running stitch around the open end of the tube snowman and gather the end tightly closed. Tie off and clip threads. This end is the head.

4. Cut one piece of navy blue felt, 11 inches wide by 6 inches tall, for the snowman's hat.

5. Fold the navy blue piece in half, matching the 6-inch sides. Sew a 1/4-inch seam allowance to connect the 6-inch sides together and create a tube.

6. Turn the navy blue tube right-side out. Gather one end of the hat by hand and tie a small amount of yarn around the gathers, 1 inch from the end. Tie the yarn in a knot and clip the ends. Fold up the open end of the hat 1 inch to create a cuff. Place the hat on the snowman's head and affix it using craft glue.

7. Tie crochet thread tightly around the neck of the snowman, creating an indentation. Knot the thread and clip the ends.

8. Rip a strip of chenille bedspread 3 inches wide by 24 inches long. Tie it around the neck of the tube snowman for a scarf. Trim the ends.

9. Apply blush to the cheeks with a cotton swab. Lay down the tube snowman and glue the pink button to the center of the face for the nose. Dot two eyes using the black dimensional fabric paint. Glue the three white buttons down the front of the tube snowman's body. Allow the paint and glue to dry.

Tips & Warnings

• Use different colored felt for an assortment of hats, or experiment with fleece or wool.

• Strips of flannel will also be cute for the snowman's scarf.
