Things You'll Need:
- Brightly colored long flowing skirt
- Peasant blouse (preferably white)
- Large scarf or sash
- Small scarf for hair
- Shawl or vest
- Boots or black shoes
- Lots of costume jewelry
- Long-haired wig (optional)
- Tambourine (optional)
-
Step 1
Use a skirt and a peasant blouse as the base for your costume. The skirt should be long, flowing and brightly colored. If you have a white slip to wear underneath it, allow the slip to stick out a little bit for a layered look. If you can find a white peasant blouse, all the better, because this will be reminiscent of a chemise. It will look especially good if it has a large elastic neckline that hangs off your shoulder, or laces up in the front. Tuck the blouse into the skirt.

Step 2
Wrap a scarf around your waist and tie it on the side. If you have a vest that looks old-fashioned with lacing or braiding, you can wear that. If not, simply throw a colorful crocheted shawl or large scarf over your shoulders.
-
Step 3
When doing your hair, tease it up a little and make it somewhat poofy and slightly matted and ragged looking. Tie a scarf around your head like a headband. Tie the knot on the side and let the ends hang down the side of your neck. Alternately, you can tie the scarf over your head like a skull cap, allowing long hair to flow out the bottom and around your shoulders. If you don’t have long hair, consider picking up an inexpensive wig at a Halloween outlet store.

Step 4
Stockings are not necessary, but if you wear them, use black or skin-colored. Black or brown leather boots, especially if they have laces, are ideal, however any black or brown leather shoe will do. The more scuffed and lackluster, the better.

Step 5
The jewelry really brings the gypsy costume together, so gather as much as you can from your own jewelry box, flea markets, or borrow from friends. Wear strands of beads around your neck, large hoop earrings and many bangle bracelets and rings. For a nice gypsy touch, carry a tambourine.
