Being a cartoonist is a fun and rewarding career. You get to do what you love, and people get to view your talent. You do not need to have any college education in order to be a successful cartoonist, but it is smart to take a few classes to improve your skill. A lot of time and research will go into your search for the perfect cartoonist position, but the struggle will pay off in time.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Take classes in cartoon drawing and sketching. If you are in school, take some classes there. However if you are not currently in school, then take some art classes in your area to work on your skill. You can also try to get your cartoons in your local papers as well or school projects.

  2. Step 2

Set up your portfolio. Look through all your work and find the ones that you think are the best. A good idea is to get a professional to look at your work, too, such as professors. Buy a nice portfolio case to display your work.

  3. Step 3

Look in your local newspaper to find out what is happening in your area. If there are community events where you are able to display your work, then that is the best way to get your art in the public's view.

  4. Step 4

Submit your work. Ask around and do research on what companies are looking for a cartoonist. Even if the company you like is not currently looking, ask if you can send them some of your work so they can keep it for future references.
