Cher began making her mark in the mid 1960s and continues to influence today’s pop culture scene. Cher joined Sonny Bono in the '70s and they had several hits, including the famous song “I’ve Got You Babe.” Following their immediate success, they were then offered a variety show which continued on through the late '70s. Cher’s look was characterized by flashy costumes and dramatic makeup. Despite the natural makeup look that was so prevalent during the '70s, Cher maintained her dramatic makeup style.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Prep your skin. Use your favorite cleanser to wash your face. Towel dry it gently. Apply toner to your face and follow up with your favorite moisturizer. It is important to give your moisturizer at least 10 minutes to soak into your skin.

  2. Step 2

Apply face makeup. Dot foundation on your face using your fingers. Use a damp sponge, a foundation brush or your fingers to blend the foundation into your skin. If you have under-eye circles or blemishes that need some extra attention, apply concealer to these areas. Set your makeup with face powder.

  3. Step 3

Emphasize your eyes. Apply an eye shadow base or primer to your eye lids. For Cher's look, you are going to do a smokey eye. Apply a medium toned gray as a wash on your eye lid. Since the color is darker, it is important that you apply it evenly. Use a charcoal colored shadow to contour your eye. Apply it to the crease of your eye. Line your eye generously with black liquid eyeliner. You want the liner to be on the heavier side.

  4. Step 4

Apply false eyelashes. Try the eyelashes on and, if necessary, trim them so that they fit your eye shape. Apply eyelash adhesive to the back of the eyelashes. Carefully apply the eyelashes to your eye, making sure they are secured before allowing them to dry.

  5. Step 5

Apply lip gloss. Since you are doing a smokey eye, you want a neutral lip. Line your lip with a flesh toned lip liner. If you would like a slightly more dramatic lip, fill in your lips with the lip liner. Apply a neutral peach or pink lip gloss.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a dark colored eyelash adhesive. This adds more emphasis to your black eye liner.
  • Move quickly when applying eyelashes. You have a limited amount of time to secure the lashes in place before the glue begins to dry.
