How to Force Quit Applications in Mac OS X
Force quitting an application allows a user to close a program immediately. It also allows users to close programs that are not responding, or have frozen.

Go to the Apple menu by clicking the apple icon in the top left corner of the screen.

Select Force Quit from the Apple menu, which will pop up a "Force Quit Applications" window.

Select the program you wish to quit.

Press the "Force Quit" button on the pop-up window.

Pressing command-option-escape together will also bring up the window.

Tips & Warnings
If you see a program not responding, clicking the program's icon on the dock while holding the Control key will also allow you to Force Quit the application.
