Things You'll Need:
- Invitations
- Cookie cutters
-
Step 1
Plan out your dining options and figure out what sort of food you want to serve your guests. Hors d'oeuvres? Desserts? A full meal? All of the above? Starting here will allow you to figure out how much prep time you'll need to pull everything off--and bake a bunch of cookies as well.
-
Step 2
Consider asking your guests to bring along something for the party--a bottle of wine, sprinkles for the cookies or other decorating tools.
-
Step 3
Create an invite list and send out invitations. Evite is a great site that allows you to send invitations electronically (see Resources below).
-
Step 4
Start baking. Choose a sugar cookie recipe (see Resources below). Start baking your cookies a day or two before so you're not rushing to get them baked right before your party.
-
Step 5
Buy pre-made frosting and dye it different colors. Or you can make homemade frosting using a recipe. You might also want to stock up on sprinkles and other cookie-decorating pieces if you want to offer your guests some variety.
-
Step 6
Cookie CuttersConsider using your cookie cutters as decorations. Buy ribbon in a variety of Christmas colors (get silkier ribbon). Cut the ribbon into long strips. Take your cookie cutters (ones that you can see through and don't have a handle on top) and tie an end of the ribbon to the cutter. Hang the ribbons in a doorway or elsewhere in your house for a festive and theme-appropriate decoration.
